Lehmann Family Reunion Held Aug. 1 in Warda

The Herman and Johanna (Herbrig) (Woythe) Lehmann reunion was held on Sunday Aug. 1 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church Picnic Grounds in Warda. Everyone enjoyed a pot luck meal. JC Kaiser was the oldest male member attending at 88 years old. Wilma Kaiser was the oldest female attending at 89 years old. Lydia Lehmann was the youngest attending at 2 years old. JC and Wilma Kaiser were the longest married couple at 70 years and Steven and Roxanne Davis were the newest married couple at 10 years. Traveling the farthest distance (360 miles) were Steve and Roxanne Davis from Lawton, OK. The Edward Lehmann family had the most family members attending.

Officers elected were: President: Linda Lehmann, Secretary and Correspondence Chair: Carolyn Lehmann, Treasurer: Roxanne Davis and Historian: Carol Lehmann.

The reunion committee is planning on adding activities such as a silent auction, bingo and children’s activities. The committee is also asking the family for suggestions and activity leaders/sponsors. The Paul Lehmann family will be hosting the next reunion on Sunday Aug. 22, 2022 at Holy Cross Picnic Grounds.

Birth Announcement

Congratulations to Delbert and Judy Zoch on the birth of their granddaughter, Kyla Lynn Bradshaw, born to Davis and Bridgett (Kovar) Bradshaw on July 31. Excited to welcome Kyla home are her big sisters, Layla and Mariyah, and grandma, Sandra Bradshaw.

Annual Wendish Fest

The 33rd Annual Wendish Fest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26 at the St. Paul Picnic Grounds. The day will offer lots of Wendish history, heritage, culture and family activities. The traditional Wendish meal will be available at 10:30 a.m. for $12 and children’s meals for $6. Togo and drive-thru will also be available at 9:30 a.m. All takeout meals are $12. Conway Whited Benefit

A benefit for Conway Whited, infant son of Justin and Amanda Whited, will be held Sunday, Aug. 22 at the Holy Cross picnic grounds. A drive thru meal will be served from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. consisting of pork steak, green beans, corn, homemade noodles and bread. Tickets are $12 each. Baked goods will be available for a free-will donation. Raffle tickets are also being sold for $20 each. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m. on the same day. Winners do not have to be present to win and it will be streamed via Facebook live. Meal and raffle tickets are available at the church office. Barbecue Fundraiser

The South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department Annual Barbecue will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. Beef, pork and BBQ to go at the pits begin at 4:30 p.m. Beef and pork plates with all the trimmings from 5-7:30 p.m. Plates are $12 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. All to go plates are $12. There will be a silent auction beginning at 3 p.m. and a live auction beginning at 6:30 p.m. Music throughout the afternoon will be by the “Blue Sunset Band”. All proceeds will go toward updating fire equipment.

Faith Lutheran High School

FLHS will begin the new school year on August 18. They are excited to welcome incoming freshman students and are looking forward to a wonderful school year. The opening service for the 2021-2022 school year will be held on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 3 p.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. This will officially open their fifth academic school year. “Transformed” based on Romans 12:2 is the theme for this school year. A worship service will be held and led by association pastors, with the sermon by Pastor Dustin Beck. An offering will be collected to support FLHS Scholarship Fund. A potluck dessert and punch reception will follow.

The annual student retreat to Camp Lone Star is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, Aug. 26-27. This annual student retreat is a wonderful opportunity for the students to participate in challenge courses.

Registration is under way for the 2021-2022 school year at FLHS. Currently there are 17 students enrolled. If you are looking for a Christ-centered education, a rigorous college prep curriculum and small class size, contact the school at (979) 242-2889 and schedule a visit. There is a scholarship program available.

Holy Cross Church Picnic

Holy Cross will be having their church picnic this year. Mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend Sunday, Sept. 5. There will be lots of great BBQ, the ladies will have side dishes available and as always lots of great baked goods. An afternoon of music and a live auction are planned. 150th Anniversary

The 150th Anniversary Committee at Holy Cross Lutheran is looking for people who would be willing to be interviewed about the history of Holy Cross and the Warda community for the 150th Anniversary book/video. Interviews are flexible and will be scheduled at a location, time and date that is convenient for you. Bible Study

The Bible study group at Holy Cross meets Wednesday evenings. They will be continuing their study on Exodus beginning Sept. 8 at 6:30 p.m. This will be an eleven-week course that picks up where they left off in May. They will walk along as the Israelites travel through the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. Holy Cross Services

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Sunday, Aug. 8 will be the “Blessing of the Backpacks.” Parents with school age children are invited to have their children bring their backpacks to church to start off the 2021/2022 school year.

Sewing Circle

The sewing circle meets each Thursday from 9 am to noon in the old fellowship hall. Everyone is welcome to join this group. You do not have to be a member of Holy Cross to join them.

Thank you to everyone that collects their cancelled postage stamps and turns them in to the Ladies Aid Group for Lutheran World Relief. Stamporee project coordinator, Sara Frank, will give a presentation on Thursday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. in the old fellowship hall. She will discuss the process and the project of the Lutheran World Relief shipping fund that the stamps help to support.
