The 10th Annual OktoBierFest sponsored by the Round Top Rifle Assn. is on tap this Saturday (Oct. 23).

All activities will be at the historic Round Top Rifle Hall at 710 FM 1457 beginning at 11 a.m. This Festival is by design authentic Bavarian German.

The food booth will be serving Kassler Rippchen (smoked pork chops), Texas Bratwurst, Sauerkraut, German Potatoes, Radieschen Salat (radish salad), Kartoffel Suppe (potatoes soup) and large Bretzeln (pretzels). All food is prepared on site. Serving starts at 11 a.m. Several German biers are on tap plus a variety of bottled bier.

Musical entertainment also begins under the pavilion at 11 a.m. Authentic German styled bands, including the Round Top Brass Band, Auf Geht’s, an Oktoberfest Party Band lead by Randy Adams, trumpet professor at SHSU and featuring maestro accordionist Wolfgang Kayser, and Enzian Buam, a first class Bavarian yodeling group from Frelsburg.

Music will continue all day until 8 p.m. Tapping of the ceremonial keg is at noon. There’s also the ever-popular Masskrugstemmen, or the Bier Stein holding contest for men and women. Also back this year, after skipping last year due to Covid concerns, is the Saufmaschine or the bier drinking machine. The wearing of your Lederhosen and Dirndls, or just your German hat, is encouraged.
