Ladies Bible Study to Resume in Flatonia
Jennifer Rightmer is once again leading a Ladies Bible Study at the Flatonia Baptist Church fellowship hall on Thursday mornings starting Oct. 14 from 9-11 a.m. The study will be “Get Out of Your Head” by Jennie Allen.
“Get Out of Your Head” is a Biblical guide to discovering how to submit our minds to Christ because how we think shapes how we live. As we surrender every thought to Jesus, the promises of God flood our lives in profound ways. The study will look at Identifying negative thought patterns that are keeping you stuck. Understanding the science behind why your thoughts can change your life. Recognizing your God-given power to confront and overcome your toxic thoughts.
All area ladies are invited to come and join in this very interesting study. In this day and time it will help us all get past the fears that have been fed to us from the society we live in. It is always a great time of sharing of faith and fellowship.
Out and About
Roberta and Milton Gullick were thrilled have grandson Austin LaPoint and his wife Latayea bring their daughter Aruora to visit them. Rebecca Gullick Young traveled to Pearland to keep the grandbaby before they all loaded up and came to Muldoon.
Clay and Jennifer Rightmer traveled to Waco. They attended the Baylor University game against Iowa State. Baylor managed to pull off a victory in a tight game.
Dana and Darrell Kulak took off to Hungerford to help Darrell’s brother Steven Kulak’s. Steven retired as an operator at Phillips.
Beth and Jack Field with daughter Bethany along with Beth’s mom Virginia Tappe came out to visit Devon Boehnke for the weekend.
New England Tour
Ron and Pam Knotts recently got back from a long planned driving trip of seven New England states. They trip was part of a long time plan of seeing all fifty states. Ron and Pam flew into Boston, Massachusetts to begin their trip. They rented a car and started with a few days in the Boston area.
They first drove through Cambridge and checked out the Harvard and MIT campuses. It was in that same area they saw many historical signs from the Revolutionary War period. Later, in the day they drove towards the coast, passing through Salem and driving past the witch houses. The next stop was Gloucester. The area is home to lots of sailboats and fishing operations. While in the area Ron and Pam took a whale watching tour and were glad to see many whales actively moving through the feeding grounds, including a mom and toddler that were well known in the area.
Moving further up the coast Ron and Pam discovered the town of Ipswich and felt they had stepped back in time. Most of the homes were built in the 1600 and 1700s and were still occupied and well maintained. Signs are posted on most of the homes indicating when they were built and who lived there. The town cemetery is a great history lesson with headstones of the early settlers to the area.
After several days the Knotts headed south of Boston and stopped at the Plymouth, Massachusetts to see the Plymouth Rock and a replica of the Mayflower. Passing briefly through the Cape Cod area it was on to Newport, Rhode Island for a trolley tour of the mansions of some of the early money families of the country. One stop included The Breakers, the summer home of Cornelius Vanderbilt built in the late 1800s. The tour included the first two floors of the 70 room mansion set right on the coast. The art, opulent furniture and beautiful carved wood were beyond belief.
They then moved on to Connecticut which provided more seafaring history at Mystic Seaport Museum. The museum grounds include a 19th Century village with trade shops for riggers, coppers and woodcarvers with crafters demonstration their skills. There also were ships of the period that can be toured and a full time boast restoration workshop that maintains the old vessels. The Knotts highly recommend this stop.
From Connecticut the trip took Ron and Pam north through Vermont with a stop at a sugar shack to learn how maple syrup is made. Several days of touring a variety of historic towns and hunting covered bridges led them on into New Hampshire to see some beautiful roads. On the way back south they stopped in Putney, Vermont to visit with their niece and her husband Julia and Tyler Keyes.
It was then back into western Massachusetts they stopped in Stockbridge for some time at the Norman Rockwell Museum and Studio. They last few days of the trip they headed south to Philadelphia with a brief stop in Delaware and finally a quick drive up the New Jersey Turnpike to Newark where they caught a plane back to Austin and home.
The Knotts have done lots of traveling in the last 40 years and only recently realized that they had covered almost all the states. Two years ago they wrapped up North Dakota and now have taken in the final seven states. They also have been traveling to all 256 courthouses in the state of Texas. They only have 80 left to see. So, more adventures are on the agenda for Pam and Ron in the future.
