The La Grange high school Leopard Spots yearbook staff won 15 awards at this year’s Best In Texas yearbook competition, judged by the Texas Association of Journalism Educators. This is the most awards the yearbook staff have received so far, in their eight years of submitting entries, and competed against 1,600 entries from schools all over the state.

The awards included five Excellent gradings for

• overall yearbook concept for the 2025 book, “P.O.V.”

• coverage of the Mighty Leopard Band’s historic journey to state last year

• a story over the varsity boys basketball season,

• photography of football action.

Students also won a total of 10 honorable mentions for their design, writing and photography.

“I am so delighted that the staff’s hard work has been recognized,” yearbook advisor Lucy Carr said. “I am particularly pleased that the staff won awards for all aspects of the yearbook, not just in one area. This shows how they have excellent all-round skills that stand up against schools with much bigger staff, from 5A and 6A schools.”

This year’s editor, Eryn Kutchka, won five awards in total for her photography, design and writing. Last year’s design editor, Jack Bennett, won awards for his cover design, his coverage of the band, as well as awards for the overall theme concept, which he created alongside fellow editor Camden Coltrain and editor in chief, Meadow Taylor-Marklin. Both Coltrain and Taylor-Marklin are currently in their freshman year studying journalism and communications at universities in Alabama and Tennessee.

First-year staff members Emma Anderson and Grayson Hart also won recognition for their photography, and current senior, Diamond McKenzie was recognized for her writing and photography.
