La Grange Walmart Awards $4,000 Grant During Animal Shelter Fundraiser
On Dec. 20, 2025, shoppers at the La Grange Walmart were greeted with wagging tails, warm smiles, and an important message: the value of spay and neuter programs in protecting community pets. The animal shelter hosted a fundraising and awareness event at the store, drawing strong support from both longtime friends and new faces.
Throughout the day, donors and supporters stopped to say hello and offer encouragement to Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter (GJAS) staff, board members, and volunteers. They shared stories of experiences at the shelter and their own pets, many adopted from GJAS. The community expressed appreciation for the shelter’s ongoing work. Volunteers also connected with many first-time visitors who expressed interest in becoming future donors, adopters, and advocates.
Additionally, 75,000 native seeds locally harvested and packaged by Fayette WILD were distributed as stocking stuffers. Fayette County should be in full bloom with Beautyberries in the spring. Look for more to come from the Fayette WILD and GJAS partnership.
Walmart played a central role in the event’s success. In addition to providing space and partnership, the store generously awarded the animal shelter a $4,000 grant, a contribution that will directly support spay and neuter services and help reduce pet overpopulation.
Shelter organizers said they were deeply grateful for the community’s enthusiasm and Walmart’s continued support, calling the day “a heartwarming reminder of how much we can accomplish together.”
