For the second consecutive year, and only the second time in school history, the La Grange High School band competed at the state marching competition Wednesday at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The band qualified for state by being one of the top 27 Class 4A bands (out of over 200) in the entire state. Fans and classmates lined the streets of La Grange cheering as the band departed for state by bus Tuesday.

The Leps were the first of those 27 bands to compete on the field at the Alamodome Wednesday with their colorful show “Flower Power” which showcased the vibrant pop sounds of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Then the band and their fans watched the other bands perform, waiting for the announcement that afternoon of the 10 bands that would advance to the evening finals.

La Grange was not selected for the finals (officially being judged 27th place). After Wednesday night’s finals, Celina High School ended up winning those finals, with Davenport finishing second.

The La Grange band is under the direction of Chris Cooper. Assistant band directors are Shelby Lane, Jacob Stephenson and Sarah Fourmy. Drum majors are Chloe Coufal, senior clarinetist and Kameron Behrens, senior trombonist.
