Kobza Gifts Masks to Fayette County

Covid and Santa Claus aren’t words generally seen together, but a Fayette County man has been playing that role since the pandemic began.

Carman Kobza, who is originally from Engle, is now the chief executive officer for a German company that manufactures medical equipment. In the early days of Covid 19, he donated 70,000 masks to Fayette County, handing them out like “a Covid Santa Claus.”

“He definitely assisted us in our time of need. Carman was handing out masks like gifts and believe me they were,” said Fayette County Chief of Emergency Management Craig Moreau.

While mask mandates have been lifted, the need for them continues for first responders and medical providers. Kobza recently sent another shipment of 22,500 masks to the county for that use and to be shared with any organization that needs them.

“Carman told me he hopes these can be used for deserving people of our community. His parents still live here on their family property and his ties to our county run deep,” Moreau said.

Providing masks is not the only way Kobza is giving back to his community both local and abroad. He is currently working to support breast cancer prevention efforts around the world. His LadyBWell campaign partners with an organization that employs autistic adults.

“Carman’s partner makes breast cancer educational bracelets. The purchase of a bracelet gifts a free breast cancer exam to underprivileged women around the world. The bracelets promote early detection and treatment,” Moreau said.
