Knights of Columbus, CDA Hold Memorial Service

On the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 12, the annual commemoration of departed members of the Knights of Columbus, Chromcik Council No. 2574 of La Grange, Hostyn, and Plum, along with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum, and Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 of Hostyn took place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange.

Recitation of the Rosary began at 6 p.m. and was led by KC member Morgan Smith and CDA No. 1962 member Mary Lou Anderle. The Memorial Service and Mass commenced after the Rosary with KC Member Morgan Smith giving the welcome.

During the solemn ceremony the names of members who departed this life since the memorial a year ago were read and family members and/ or friends carried a lighted candle in procession. These candles of remembrance were placed on a table in front of the altar by KC members Marcus Recek and Jody Supak .

Remembered by Morgan Smith; Rodney L. Janak, Ben W. Bohuslav, Carlo A. Triolo, Edwin F Muras, and Chris Lena. Court Annunciation Regent Sherry Hebert memorialized five Catholic Daughters; Margie Urban, Janice Brandt, Marge Rosenberg, Irene Hluchanek, and Irene Michalsky. Court Queen of the Holy Rosary Brenda Fietsam stated that did not lose anyone this year.

In addition to the above named, a keepsake program also listed the names of all other deceased members, 360 Knights and 192 La Grange/ Plum, 31 Hostyn Catholic Daughters. The banners of the organizations were displayed at the side of the altar.

Celebrant of the Mass and homilist was the Rev. Fr. Chris Smith. Cocelebrant was the Rev. Fr. Paul Appiah-Otchere.

Music for the Liturgy was provided by Mary Lou Anderle and Ken Brothers of Saints Peter and Paul Parish of Plum. The reading for the Mass and the Prayers of the Faithful were recited by CDA No. 1962 member Melinda Dunk. Gift bearers were CDA Court No. 2282 member Lillian Kallus and KC Financial Secretary Marcus Recek.

Afterwards, a time for fellowship took place that included a stew supper provided by the KC’s and desserts by CDA Court Annunciation.
