KJZT Family Life Society No. 31 Holds Quarterly Meeting Feb. 11

On Feb. 11, the first quarterly meeting of Society No. 31 of La Grange, St. Frances of Rome, KJZT Family Life was held at 4 p.m. by teleconference. President Elizabeth Kallus called the meeting to order and led opening prayers especially remembering three members who had passed away since the previous quarterly meeting, Larry Hoeinghaus, Bernice Holubec, and Sharon Belota. The pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags were recited.

Reading of the Nov. 12, 2020 meeting minutes was dispensed, Treasurer Barbara Eilert filed her report, bills were approved for payment, and thank you cards were read.

Kallus and Secretary Marilyn Kothmann read correspondence from the State KJZT. Each member of the Fraternal received a spiritual benefit of being enrolled in the KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund in December. Because Pam Strickland had been President/ CEO but is no longer employed with KJZT Family Life, as of January 4th the Board of Directors appointed Arlene Cloyd as Interim President/CEO, Joyce Kurtz as Lead Director, and Cynthia Morris as State Director for Districts XI and XII. Due to COVID-19 concerns for members and delegates, the XXXVI Regular General Convention has been rescheduled to a one-day convention on Saturday, November 6, at the KC Hall in Hallettsville.

KJZT Clerical Endowment Fund enrollments report by Vice President Joy Kovar showed one special birthday and eight sympathies by Society No. 31, and thirteen enrollments by individuals with one being a perpetual enrollment and donation. Four get well cheer cards were sent. The three deceased members were remembered with Mass intentions. Kallus gave the publicity report and KJZT Traveling Unity Rosary report that showed Rose Recek has the Rosary.

Unfinished business: It was announced that Rev. Brian Phillips is the new Chaplain of Society No. 31. Members were reminded of the upcoming annual feast day Mass on March 13 at 5 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Society No. 31 took part in Catholic Schools Week at Sacred Heart School in La Grange by delivering twenty-four goody bags on Monday, Feb. 1 for the teachers and faculty in appreciation for all they do.

Elected for the upcoming 2021 Convention were Joy Kovar and Elizabeth Kallus as delegates, and Barbara Eilert and Marilyn Kothmann as alternates. Society No. 31 quarterly meeting dates have changed to the third Monday, May 17, Aug. 16, Nov. 15, for the remainder of the year at 4 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Church narthex meeting room

New business reflected Society No. 31 taking part in the Catholic Schools Donations by the State KJZT Family Life with Sacred Heart Catholic School receiving a $50 donation. KJZT Junior Division raffle tickets are available until May 15 from Kallus. Decisions about the Marshall Program will be forthcoming. Motion carried to participate in the Feeding Families Across Texas KJZT State project by receiving matching funds for our treasury donation and presenting $400 to AMEN food pantry in La Grange.

Attendance prize was won by Barbara Brauner and the meeting closed with the Memorare prayer.
