Karisch Is Gold Award Winner In International Distillers Competition

Britton Karisch, distiller for Dime Box Distillery, recently received a John Barleycorn Society Gold Award for his strawberry brandy. The John Barleycorn Society is an assemblage of the world’s top spirits professionals, who wish to recognize the exceptional distillers, marketers, and designers in today’s international spirits industries. Competing against similar products from around the world, Britton’s brandy won in a blind taste test by industry professionals who considered flavor, color, and aroma.

The society and the awards get their name from the centuries old spirits metaphor, “ John Barleycorn” which has been featured over time in the works of writers, poets, and lyricists, like Jack London, Robert Burns, and Steve Winwood. Britton received an 11 inch gold metal statuette portraying “ the contemplation of a cup of fine spirits,” by a stylized human figure. This award was created and produced by Society Awards, who also produce the Golden Globes, Emmys, MTV and other prominent achievement honors.

The Dime Box Distillery is located in Giddings and owned by Mike Lindel. The distilling, bottling, and tasting room are located in the old railroad freight depot on the east side of the tracks and one block north of Hwy. 290. It features a complete line of Sixth Street whiskeys, vodkas, and in house artisan liquors, which are bottled in distinctive guitar shaped bottles.

Britton and his wife Sherry reside in Winchester and his parents are Bill and Pat Karisch of La Grange.
