James Dick Piano Recital Saturday at Festival Hill

Founder and Artistic Director of Round Top Festival Institute, James Dick, will star in a live piano performance on Saturday, March 13. The show, which will feature works by Schubert, Beethoven, Chopin and Prokofiev, begins at 3 p.m. Tickets must be purchased in advance online at festivalhill.org

Spring Antique Show

The Spring Antique Show opens this coming Thursday, March 18. Tents are being set-up and vendors are prepping for another exciting and (sure-to-be) successful show. A full list of vendors can be found at exploreroundtop.com.

Monday Night Social

The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Social takes place on the first through fourth Mondays of the month from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. The Winedale Lunch & Learn and the Round Top Family Library FYI present a Zoom program Tuesday, March 16 at 12 p.m. The program, “Houston’s Gulf Hotel Fire” is presented by Brady Hutchison.

During World War II Houston joined other cities in manufacturing war materials for the Allied Powers. Thousands of newly arrived workers lodged in hotels such as the Gulf Hotel at Preston and Louisiana in downtown Houston. Early on Sept 7, 1943, a fire at the hotel killed 55 men in Houston’s worst firerelated tragedy. 23 victims were never identified and buried in a mass grave.

This presentation will tell the story of the fire and its aftermath. Mr. Hutchison is a retired firefighter/arson investigator, turned history professor and author, who currently teaches US History at Wharton County Junior College.

Bethlehem Lutheran Church holds services with Pastor John David Nedbalek Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion is celebrated using individual, prepackaged units.
