“Ice” Skating Coming to La Grange

Sharpen up those skates, folks, because an ice skating rink is coming to La Grange next month.

Actually, it’ll be made of artificial ice, and skates will be provided.

La Grange Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the event, slated to take place Dec. 17, 18 and 19. The rink will be set up at the basketball half-court in White Rock Park on Mode Lane.

City Parks and Rec. director Janet Rangel said the event will be moved to the gym in Randolph Rec Center in case of bad weather.

“You never know what kind of weather we’ll get in Texas,” Rangel said.

It probably won’t get cold enough for actual ice (unless we get another blizzard like the one in February). Nonetheless, Rangel said the artificial ice comes pretty close to the real thing.

“It’s basically the same as skating on ice,” she said.

Rangel said the surface is made out of the same material as the white cutting boards many people have in their kitchens.

The rink will be open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 17 and 18. On Sunday, Dec. 19, the rink will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The cost is $5 per person for 25 minutes of skating, with changes every half hour. Concessions will be available.
