Holy Cross Lutheran Church Picnic Slated Aug. 31

Holy Cross Lutheran Annual Church picnic will be held Sunday, Aug. 31. Mark your calendars for this fun event.

Brisket, pork and chicken BBQ will be sold at the pits beginning at 9:30 a.m. The ladies will be selling sides of noodles, beans, potato salad and cold slaw for $4 each. If you would like to preorder sides, call Cindy at (713) 6281056. The Ladies Country Store will open at 9 a.m. and includes baked goods and lots of wonderful home canned/ preserved items.

Children’s activities begin at 11 a.m. and include barrel train rides. The ladies silent auction is from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Homemade hamburgers, French fries and nachos will be sold beginning at 4 p.m.

Music by Mark Gruetzner from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and The Lost Cause Band will play from 2-5:30 p.m.

The live auction starts at 5:30 p.m. They are accepting donations for the live auction. Contact Brian at (979) 9663761 to donate auction items. Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day.

37th Annual Wendish Fest The 37th Annual Wendish Fest will be held on Sept. 28 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds 1011 CR 212 Giddings. The drive-thru Wendish meal line opens at 9:30 a.m. with the dine in line opening at 10:30 a.m. Tickets are only available at the festival. This day celebrates the Wendish culture and history with food, activities, folklife exhibits, demonstrations and live polka music. The Wendish Museum will be open from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., bird wedding presented by St. Paul students is at 11:30 a.m. There will be a live auction of the coffee cakes at 12:45 p.m. and live music by Jodie Mikula Orchestra from 1-4 p.m. Included in this free family- friendly event will be kids train rides, sausage stuffing demo, washer pitching, noodle making, Wendish Easter Egg, blacksmithing, wine making and cross cut saw demonstrations. The South Lee County Volunteer Fire Department will have their Annual BBQ and Auction on Saturday, Aug. 9 at the Serbin Picnic Grounds. BBQ by the pound will be available to-go at the pits from 4:30 p.m. BBQ plates with all the trimmings will be available starting at 5 p.m. All plates and beverages are free will donation. The Lost Cause Band will play from 3:30-6 p.m. The live auction will begin at 6:30 p.m. All proceeds go towards updating fire equipment.

Community Baseball 

The Serbin Jackrabbits beat Flatonia 10-0. The Championship game will be Serbin vs. Weimar at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 at the La Grange Fairgrounds.

Tejas Camp & Retreat Center 

On Saturday, August 9, Tejas Camp and Retreat Center will have a Free Family Fun Day from 3-7 p.m. Burgers provided by Feed The Need, thrilling activities for all ages including lake swimming Adventure Tower, Bazooka Ball and more. Just a reminder that The Little Free Library in Warda is located beside the Faith Lutheran High School entrance at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. There is a wide selection of books available for adults and children. Just borrow a book or leave a book. The more people that take advantage of this opportunity, the more books we will have available. Stop by whenever you can and see what is new. There are no fees or dues to participate. Drop by anytime for yourself, your child or your grandchild. We also have puzzles available for those that are interested. Grab a puzzle, put it together and return it for someone else to enjoy.

Sewing Circle 

The Sewing Circle meets each Thursday from 9 a.m.noon in the old parish hall at Holy Cross in Warda. (this is around the back side of the church). No experience is necessary and you do not have to be a church member to join this fun group. Contact the church office at (979) 2423333 if you have any questions. Game Day at Holy Cross The next Game Day at Holy Cross in Warda will be held Thursday, Aug. 21 from noon-2 p.m. A light lunch is served. There is no cost to attend and everyone is welcome. Games of bingo and dominoes are offered.

Recycle Trailer 

The recycle trailer is located across from the fellowship hall at Holy Cross Church. Aluminum cans can be placed in a large wire bin at the picnic grounds. Money from the cans helps the local Trail Life Group with activity costs.

Holy Cross Services 

Services at Holy Cross Lutheran are Sunday at 9 a.m. Bible Class and Sunday school follows the morning service.

Blessings of the backpacks will be Sunday, Aug. 10.

Youth Group will meet August 10 at 11 a.m.
