An H-E-B 18-wheeler caught fire on Interstate 10 in Schulenburg on Saturday, Nov. 29.

Schulenburg Volunteer Fire Department got the call shortly after 1 p.m. The truck had stopped near the westbound exit ramp. The rear of the trailer was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. They quickly extinguished the flames, but the trailer suffered major damage.

The fire appeared to have started from faulty brakes on the rear passenger side of the trailer.

Schuelnburg Police Department and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene. The westbound side of the Interstate was shut down to one lane while firefighters extinguished the flames. All lanes reopened around 1:44 p.m.
