Hafers Celebrate Wedding Anniversary at Navidad Valley
The atmosphere inside the Navidad Valley Community Connections Center is one of warmth and camaraderie, and that is just the way we need it to be. People come to the Center to have some fun while visiting with friends and neighbors. They play table games like 42, Moon, Bunco, and other domino games.
New ideas are percolating to attract more folks back to the Center and to bring in some new people, too. The highlight of each day is centered around the meal shared together at noon, the news and prayers we share with each other, and the light table chatter that just lets you know people are happy and content. NVCC invites you to come to the Center and spend some time with members.
Alton and Verdell Hafer celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary earlier this month and shared this wonderful event with NVCC members. The Hafer’s are regulars at the Center, attending at least once a week. Both are avid 42 dominoes players and they really enjoy Bingo on Wednesdays. When they come into the Center, the chairs are shuffled and everyone re-groups to make room for them at the 42 table because they are good players and they love to play. Mr. Hafer always has good stories to tell and he engages with lunch & learn series speakers by asking questions and wanting facts. They usually leave Bingo with a little bag of bingo prizes that consist of household items, snacks, and other goodies that make life easier by limiting trips to the store.
NVCC is always looking for volunteers and welcome you, if you would like to come in and participate. It’s not an everyday obligation, but maybe one day a week for a couple of hours that would make a big difference. Right now, we are looking for one more bingo caller for one hour a week, once a month. Get your company in the spotlight by sending a volunteer to the Senior Center. Wednesday, June 16, 9 a.m. - hot coffee, good conversation, dominos, 42, Moon, and fun. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. of fried chicken, mixed veggies, green salad, and dessert. Bingo at 12 p.m. with Shannon McBride from Kindred at Home.
Friday, June 18, Crafty Corner Activity from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sewing projects, floral arrangements, drawing and artwork painting for poles.
Monday, June 21, 9 a.m. - hot coffee, good conversation, dominos, 42, Moon, and fun. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. of sausage and cabbage, salad and dessert. Speaker pending at 12 p.m.
Tuesday, June 22, Crafty Corner Activity from 2 to 4 p.m.
Wednesday, June 23, 9 a.m. - hot coffee, good conversation, dominos, 42, Moon, and fun. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. of smothered steak with gravy, buttered noodles, green salad, and dessert. Bingo at 12 p.m.
