Flatonia Chief Lee Dick Reports On May Activities

Flatonia Police Chief Lee Dick submitted the following monthly report of police activity at a Flatonia City Council meeting on July 13:

On May 1, Flatonia Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of W. North Main Street to a one vehicle car accident. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree causing major damage to the vehicle. The vehicle was towed away from the scene and no injuries were reported.

On May 1, Officer Kucera received a call about a loud noise heard around N. Penn Street. Officer Kucera was patrolling that area in search of what may have caused the loud noise, as one of the men from the city crew flagged him down and advised him that a powerline was down at the intersection of State Highway 95 and 7th Street. The Officer provided traffic control until the line was fixed. Patrol duties resumed.

On May 6, Flatonia Officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the 1400 block of FM 609. Flatonia officers arrived and were able to determine that it was a verbal disturbance and both parties were already separated. Normal patrol duties continued.

On May 10, Chief Dick assisted Fayette County Emergency Medical Services during a two-vehicle car accident at the 658-mile marker. Chief Dick not only provided traffic control but also helped Emergency Medical Services evaluate the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the car accident. Patrol duties resumed soon after.

On May 11, Flatonia Officers were contacted by a woman in reference to a welfare concern for her husband. The woman stated that her husband had stopped to rest in Flatonia on his way home and was not answering her phone calls. The officer was able to locate her husband, who had fallen asleep and did not hear his phone ring. The officer let him know that his wife was worried about him, and he called his wife promptly.

On May 16, Flatonia Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of N. La Grange Street in reference to a disturbance. Officers arrived at the location and spoke to an employee, who stated that there were two females that arrived in a vehicle and began to argue shortly after they got out at the location. The employee said they argued and then got in their vehicle and left. Patrol duties resumed.

On May 18, Officer Llanes and Sgt. Pritchard assisted a stranded 18-wheeler at the railroad under pass at the 600 block of West North Main St. A towing service arrived shortly after and cleared the roadway. Patrol resumed.

On May 18, Officer Llanes was dispatched to a call in reference to a possible disturbance at the 1600 block of Slaughterhouse Road. Fayette County Deputy Olvera assisted Officer Llanes. Upon further investigation by the officers, it was determined that a male subject at this location was suffering from some kind of medical condition. Fayette County Emergency Medical Services were called out and were able to assist the male subject. The male was transported to the hospital without further incident.

On May 18, several Flatonia Officers provided traffic control and aided residents during a torrential rain that caused flash flooding during the evening hours. Flatonia Police Department, Flatonia Fire, Fayette County Emergency Medical Services, Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, and Texas State Troopers in the area assisted each other during this event.

On May 23, Officer Llanes assisted a towing service with traffic control at the 661-mile marker. The towing service picked up a vehicle that was involved in a car accident that happened earlier in the day.

On May 23, Sgt. Pritchard was dispatched to a two-vehicle car accident at the 661-mile marker. Due to inclement weather one vehicle hydroplaned into another vehicle causing minor damage to both vehicles. No injuries were reported.

On May 28, Officer Stansberry assisted Fayette County Emergency Medical Services at the 300 block of State Highway 90 West.

On May 28, Chief Dick, Sgt. Pritchard, and Lt. Pritchard assisted in town and on Interstate 10 with several car accidents and traffic control during bad weather that struck Fayette County and the surrounding area. There were several swift water rescues throughout the county as well as several emergency medical service calls. Interstate 10 had various wrecks including three overturned 18-wheelers at different locations.

On May 30, Sgt. Pritchard helped Fayette County Deputies dealing with a disturbance on State Highway 95 North. Patrol duties resumed shortly after. Flatonia Officers continued to provide close patrols for several businesses and residential homes located within the city limits of Flatonia.

“Due to the inclement weather in month of May, command staff have had to be called out to direct traffic for major accidents resulting in the shutdown of Interstate 10,” Dick said in the report. “Fayette County has suffered flash flooding and numerous incidents of hydroplaning amongst water rescues because of the flash floods. Thankfully all the first responder agencies in the county have worked together to get through these unforseen times.”
