Five Seniors Join Army
Five La Grange High School seniors participated in their Letter of Intent Signing Day with the US Army Wednesday in the school’s gym.
The students then made their oath of enlistment.
Those enlisting were:
• Caleb Burton
• Kailee Jones
• Courtney Pacheco
• Kaleb Pyle
• Abigail Sparks
Staff Sgt. Robert M. Thompson said that as far as he knew, this was the most students from one class at La Grange to enlist in the Army.
Thompson credited the La Grange school administration with being very helpful in getting information about military service to the students.
“This is a big day,” he said.
Thompson said all five seniors would be heading off to basic training shortly after their high school graduation, with most, if not all, going to Ft. Jackson South Carolina initially.
The students participated in the ceremony in front of a large group of family and friends.
At the beginning of the ceremony each student was asked to say something about themselves and why they chose to join the Army.
Some of their answers included a love of country, a family history in the military and to inspire others.
