Fayette County Community Theatre (FCCT) presents a student production of “Little Women,” a stage adaptation by Marisha Chamberlain from the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott.

Performances take place July 24 at 7 p.m., July 25 at 7 p.m. and 26 at 3 p.m. at the La Grange ISD Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are currently on sale at the Community Theatre Box Office and online https://events.hometownticketing.com/boxoffice/lgisd.

FCCT veteran Will Martin serves as director alongside two student co-directors, his daughter Lila Martin and Nayeli Akins.

“It takes place in the Civil War era and follows a family that has four daughters,” Will Martin said. The whole family was very wealthy, and then they fell on hard times. The dad put his property at risk to help a friend, and he lost everything.”

The father goes off to serve as a chaplain in the Civil War. The mother and four daughters have to get by without him.

“And so they’re used to high living, but now they’ve fallen on hard times,” Martin said. “And the story is really about those young women coming into womanhood, learning how to be content with what the Lord sends your way.”

The youngest cast member is 11 and the oldest is 17. The Record stopped by the Performing Arts Center on Tuesday to watch a rehearsal. The production was just about stage-ready.

“I think this is going to be the best show we’ve been a part of,” Martin said.
