Fayetteville State Baseball Champs Honored at Rangers Game

State champion baseball teams, including our Fayetteville Lions, were honored before the Texas Rangers game on June 27.

Schueckler Sculpture at ARTS

Artist Larry Schueckler has created a sculpture entitled “Legends” now on display in the newly painted Ross Gallery at ARTS on the square. The larger-than-life clay sculpture, weighing approximately 1,000 lbs., will be cast in bronze. The base measures 28” x 57” and the piece will eventually spiral up to about six feet tall.

The work in progress is comprised of busts of strong art supporters throughout Texas like Ima Hogg, Mark Chapman and Sanfred Schmidt. More will be added to the piece signifying who we are as a cultured community that binds art and education together. Busts of ARTS’ children who have taken classes at the nonprofit organization are also represented as “the legends of tomorrow.” Executive Director Karen Vernon was surprised to discover she was also denoted. “This is a celebration of life. It’s pretty incredible that this is happening in our small town of Fayetteville,” stated Vernon.

Several sculptures and drawings by the sculptor are open for viewing every Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. until July 31. https://artsforruraltexas.org

Classes at the Spoiled Quilter

The fabric and kit sold in The Spoiled Quilter resulted in a beautiful American quilt pieced by Marilyn Kocurek and quilted by Kay Svrcek. The fabric and pattern for the quilt, named “Our Flag Stands for Freedom,” were designed by Primitive Gatherings. The Spoiled Quilter is now offering wool classes, one during the week and one on Saturday. Class dates will be announced soon. They’re taking deposits for the class to guarantee a spot. New Residents

John and Patty Wells are now full-time residents, having recently moved here from Richmond. After retiring from the corporate world, John began substituting at FISD and was then asked to run the maintenance department. As a professional fitness instructor for over 30 years, Patty now helps her long-term clients remain fit and healthy senior citizens. She held the title of Miss Fitness Texas 1999 and is representing Fayetteville in the Ms. Texas Senior America Pageant on July 24 in Dallas. We welcome the Wells and wish Patty all the best in the upcoming pageant.
