Fayette County EMS
In congratulating Josh Vandever, Executive Director at Fayette County Emergency Medical Services (EMS), on the new ambulance sitting in the Fayetteville fire station, we discussed a little about EMS operations. “We have seven ambulances. Our 960 square mile county is covered with four of them. Three are in reserve. The crew assigned to each station in the county work a shift rotation: three shifts of two people each—a paramedic and an EMT. Our staff is available 24/7. They work 48 hours on and have 96 hours off. The Precinct II EMS station in Fayetteville has been there for over 15 years.”
The helipad outside the community center is a pre-designated landing place. “The fire department doesn’t have to split their resources to create a landing zone,” explained Vandever. “Instead, they can continue helping with patient care or managing the scene and the helicopter can just land at the pre-determined helipad without needing assistance. And just a reminder, always call 911 if you need EMS. While the fire station is easily accessible, it’s better to call so we can take care of everyone effectively.”
