Fayetteville Bike Ride Sunday, Flag Project Continues
Good Old Summertime Classic
The Good Old Summertime Classic Bike Ride, hosted by Fayetteville Cycling, starts this Sunday at 8 a.m. from the square. The ride is open to cyclists of all levels and ages. Choose from three routes of 7, 17 and 28 miles. All proceeds from the Bike MS: Texas MS 150 sanctioned training ride benefit Fayetteville ISD. On the Saturday before, an informal ride begins at 4 p.m. on the square followed by a meet and greet reception. To sign up to ride and for more information, go to https://www.fayettevillecycling.com/
Fayetteville Square Flag Project
Donations of numerous, generous Fayetteville residents and businesses helped launch the Fayetteville Square Flag Project, originally conceived by Cleve Friddell. In 2016, Steve Pavlicek launched the community project that continues to this day and is now under the jurisdiction of the City of Fayetteville. The project was established to honor our flags that serve as a symbol of freedom and liberty. Every year, a few days before Memorial Day, volunteers set up approximately 36 U.S. and Texas flags around the lawn on the square. These will remain in place for Flag Day and Independence Day and then be removed and reinstalled for Veterans Day and Texas Independence Day. Eight branch of service flags, donated through the generosity of American Legion Post 602 members, are placed directly in front of the historic courthouse.
Famous Texan Project
As school came to a close, the students of Tara Murphy, third and fourth grade teacher at Fayetteville Elementary, researched a famous Texan or a person famous for making a difference in Texas. They prepared and memorized a script and brought their famous character to life by dressing in costume and performing as live models in a wax museum. A few of the famous Texans included Juan Seguin, Lyndon B. Johnson, Susannah Dickinson, Bonnie Parker, Mary Kay Ash, Admiral Chester Nimitz, Davy Crockett, Howard Hughes, Audie Murphy and Nolan Ryan.
All That Rain
That rain brought all kinds of stories around about people who couldn’t get out of their own driveways, backyards became lakes and intersections became rivers. Yours truly tried to get back to Fayetteville on that crazy Monday and was stopped at FM 1291, C.H. Allen and Roznov roads.
Sidewalk Replacement Project
The sidewalk replacement project on the square is on schedule. The work being performed by M&C Fonseca has been completed on N. Live Oak. Demolition of sidewalks on N. Washington began last week.
Quilt Presentation
Three graduating FISD seniors will be presented with quilts made by members of the church quilting group at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fayetteville.
Honey Bee Jubilee
St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Ulm will hold their Honey Bee Jubilee, a family community event on Sunday. Meet local beekeepers and learn about the fabulous honey bees and their natural habitats. All kinds of honey products, food, drink and native plants are for sale. And there’s live entertainment. Fayetteville City Council
Fayetteville City Council meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting is Wednesday, June 9 at 7:00 p.m. Agendas will be posted at least 72 hours prior to the meeting on the website and the bulletin board located outside the door of the Community Center.
