Fayette County Deputies Make Multiple Arrests

On Jan. 4, Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on the morning of Dec. 28, 2021 Sergeant Ryan Meagher responded to a suspicious person walking along Interstate 10 near milepost 670. The male was located and stated his vehicle ran out of gas. Further investigation resulted in Meagher learning the vehicle was reported stolen out of Houston. Arrested for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle was that of 46-year-old Edward Powell of Richmond.

On Dec. 31, 2021 Deputy Austin Moore stopped the driver of a vehicle on FM 609 near I-10 for speeding. The driver of the vehicle was found to be in possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance being that of Buprenorphine medication. Stephen Kahlig, 37-year-old from San Antonio, was charged.

On Jan. 1, in the early morn ing hours Deputy Austin Moore located a suspicious vehicle parked near the Bar G gas station. An occupant in the vehicle was located and possessed numerous out of state warrants for theft and grand theft. Also located in the vehicle was marijuana. Arrested was 18-year-old Marqavontae Hemphill of Flint, Mich.

On Jan. 1 in the evening hours Deputy Orlando Buitron stopped the driver of a vehicle traveling on State Hwy. 159 for a defective license plate light. During the investigation of the traffic stop Buitron located Ecstasy and marijuana in the vehicle. Arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance was 20-year-old Angelica Gutierrez of La Grange.
