Fayette Co. Narcotics K-9 Unit Seizes 11 Kilos of Cocaine During Traffic Stop

Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Friday, May 7, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K-9 partner Kolt, stopped a Chevy Silverado on Interstate 10 at the 661 mile-marker at approximately 4:29 p.m. for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver Sgt. Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle was being utilized to smuggle narcotics.

Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann deployed his canine Kolt to conduct an exterior sweep of the vehicle. Thumann observed Kolt alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics. The truck displayed a company name on the door and was staged to appear as a fiber optics company and the roof of the vehicle had been modified to conceal narcotics.

Approximately 11 kilos of cocaine, with a street value of $1,100,000 was removed from the compartment.

The driver, Salvador Noyola, 52 of Mission, was arrested for felony drug possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center. Assisting on the stop was Fayette County Deputy Herman Olvera.
