Fake $100 Bills Being Seen Locally
The La Grange Police Department reminds business owners and patrons to pay attention to possible counterfeit $100 bills floating around the area.
The police department reported that one individual brought them a $100 bill that turned out to be counterfeit currency. No other reports have been made so far.
Out of an abundance of caution, however, police wished to remind the public of a few tips to spot fake currency:
• Feel - check the feel of the paper. US currency is made of cotton-linen blend and has a distinct feel, while fake bills are printed on regular paper and will feel slick.
• Look - look for security features like watermarks and security threads by holding the bill up to the light.
• Tilt - observe the colorshifting ink when you tilt the
note.
If anyone in La Grange suspects they may have been passed fake currency, contact the La Grange Police Department at (979) 968-5806.
