Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Board Approves Service Fee Changes
The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Board held a special meeting on Monday, Nov. 17 at the Ellinger Fire Station. Those in attendance were Greg Hunger, Roy Moore, Michael Schlabach, Bradley Dunk, Curtis Zwahr, and Walter Reynolds.
Hunger called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The main item of business was to amend the service fee tariff. This included changing the service fee from $1,000 for water and sewer hookup/or transfer to $100 for water and $100 for sewer. Along with this the membership/application fee will be $40. This fee is refundable upon closure of the account. If a customer’s water is turned off due to nonpayment, a $500 reconnection fee will need to be paid in order to get water/ sewer services reinstated. This fee will not be refundable and will be non-negotiable. Dunk made a motion to approve this motion, seconded by Moore, and motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The Ellinger Sewer and
Water Supply Corporation held its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. Minutes from the Nov. 8 regular meeting and the minutes from the Special Nov. 17 special meeting were presented and approved.
Cierra Craig of Inframark presented the manager’s report and it was approved.
James Weishuhn discussed the ground storage tank and emergency preparedness plan. Moore made a motion to accept the engineer’s report, seconded by Dunk, and the motion passed.
The financial reports were presented and motions were made to accept reports and pay bills. Under old business Schlabach reported that USDA will notify the Ellinger Water Corporation as how to use the remaining funds left from the water well project. The decision is not up to the Water Corporation.
The board then discussed late/past due balances. Action was taken at the special Nov. 17 meeting to instate a $225 nonrefundable connection fee.
The Board discussed and took action on a new AIA Insurance Policy. Roy Moore made a motion to approve payment for the new insurance policy which included a 4% cost increase; motion was seconded by Walter Reynolds. Motion carried.
Under new business the Board discussed a Hard Copy of Water Conservation Plan; Barbara Weishuhn with Weishuhn Engineering recommended contacting Texas AgriLife to discuss the plan. No further action was taken.
The board invited Accurate Meter and Supply to give a presentation on new computer read water meters. No action was taken. The Board noted that late fees and collection actions will restart in January. No late fees/disconnections were implemented during the Covid crises. The last order of new business was to discuss and take action on contested water bills. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. The meeting adjourned at 8:46 p.m.
Annual Meetings
St. Paul, Fayetteville will hold its annual meeting following worship services on Jan. 9. Both St. John Ellinger and St. John Rutersville will hold their Annual meetings on Jan. 16 following worship. St. John’s Warrenton will hold its Annual meeting on Jan. 23 following worship services.
St. John Lutheran Council
St. John Lutheran Church Council of Ellinger met in December. The minutes and financial reports from November were presented and approved. Council approved the 2022 budget and it will be presented to the congregation at the Jan. 16 annual meeting. Council approved making a donation of $150 to CASA, and a $100 donation to the Lutheran disaster relief fund. This donation will be added to funds collected during advent worship for this cause. Repairs to the outside lighted church sign have been made, and the cross lights will be repaired soon. The council extended holiday wishes to all in the community.
Lutheran Disaster Response
Lutheran Disaster Response brings God’s hope, healing, and renewal to people whose lives have been disrupted by disasters in the United States. Through generous donations during advent, the Shared Lutheran Ministry of Fayette County will be sending $700 to the Lutheran Disaster Response of ELCA to help the victims of the recent tornadoes in the Indiana/Kentucky Synod.
SLM Council to Meet
The SLM Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18 in Ellinger. The congregation of councils will meet at 6:30 p.m. in Ellinger also.
Fayetteville Brethren Church
Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second and fourth Saturdays of each month at 10 a.m. Other services are at Industry Brethren on the second, third and fourth Saturdays at 5 p.m., Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev. Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.
