Ellinger Chamber Meets, Elects New Officers

The Ellinger Chamber of Commerce held its annual meeting on Jan. 12. The meeting was called to order by President Michael Schlabach at 7 p.m. The meeting was held in-person at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall and virtually via Zoom.

Paula Urban led the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary Erica Michalsky presented the minutes from the 2020 annual meeting and they were approved. Paulette Urban, treasurer, presented the annual financial report which was also approved. The membership attendance for annual meetings was discussed. The by-laws will be reviewed throughout the year and presented at next year’s annual meeting if any changes need to be voted on.

There was an election of officers for 2021: elected by acclamation were Michael Schlabach-president; Nicole Ramirez-vice president; Erica Michalsky-secretary; Paula Urban was nominated for treasurer. Paulette Urban motioned to approve and Tom Kubena seconded the motion. The motion passed. The terms for directors were reviewed. Diane Marusik, Cynthia Niesner, and Lawrence Urban were re-elected by acclamation to serve from 2021-2023. Paulette Urban was elected to fulfill Paula Urban’s term as director for 2021-2022. Michael Schlabach presented a recap of the 2020 events; he thanked all volunteers for their participation and willingness to make the events/fundraisers successful. He also discussed future hall updates and improvements. The meeting was adjourned at 7:26 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 9.

Mayoral Candidates Sought

The City of Ellinger announces that any Ellinger citizen wishing to run for the office of Mayor or commissioner needs to pick up an application in order to be placed on the ballot for election in May. Applications can be obtained from a city representative at the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce Hall from 7-10 a.m. on normal business days from Jan.13-Feb. 12. The City election will be held on May 1. Residents will also vote to approve a one cent increase in the sales tax. If the increase is passed collection of monies would begin in October of 2021.

Fayetteville Brethren Church

Fayetteville Brethren Church has services the second and fourth Saturday’s of each month. Other services are at Industry Brethren – parking lot services on the second, third and fourth Saturday’s at 3 p.m.; In-person services are at Wesley Brethren on Sundays at 9 a.m. and Nelsonville Brethren on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. Rev Mike Groseclose leads all the services. The Nelsonville service is live streamed on Nelsonville Brethren’s Facebook page.

Ellinger Sewer and Water

The Ellinger Sewer and Water Supply Corporation will hold its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 8. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station.

Elections for three director’s positions are being held. Ballots were mailed with the February bills. Members may vote by mailing in their ballots to the Corporation, dropping them off at 607 Munn Street or voting in person when attending the annual meeting. Mailed or dropped off ballots are due by noon on Feb. 17. Members are reminded not to leave their payments in the drop off box-only ballots. The Annual meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station. Annual reports will be presented by the manager, engineer, and office manager. Election results will also be presented before the end of the meeting. Members attending will be getting a $10 rebate on their water/ sewer bill in March.

Champion Junior Showman

Rheagan Karisch participated in the Lone Star Classic heifer show in Wharton on Sunday, Jan. 31. She was selected Champion Junior Showman and was awarded a buckle. She also exhibited her Beefmaster heifer, KCC Isabella, and her AOB heifer, Diva. Together they brought home three Breed Champion titles and two Reserve Breed Champion titles in the four rings they showed in. Way to go RLK.
