Downed Stop Sign Leads to Wreck
A missing stop sign contributed to an accident Friday morning in La Grange at the intersection of SH 159 and the SH 71 bypass.
La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath said details about the accident were yet ready in time for this publication.
The crash involved a white car heading west on the 71 feeder road. It struck a black car heading south on 159 while driving across SH 159 at the intersection. Gilbreath said the stop sign at the feeder road had been knocked over some time before the accident. The sign was laying on the ground in the ditch. Gilbreath did not know what happened to the stop sign. It was repaired after the accident.
Gilbreath said the driver of the white car was ruled at fault in the accident. Even though the stop sign was missing, he said, traffic laws require the driver to yield the right of way. The driver was not issued a citation, he said.
