Donation Made In Memory of Lillie Sulak
On Monday, June 29, Jane Sulak Lewis and her husband Rob presented Father Ed Karasek with a donation to the Clerical Endowment Fund (CEF) in memory of Jane’s mother, Lillie Sulak.
The CEF is a special project of the Austin Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (ADCCW). The CEF was established in 1948 to provide assistance in the education of seminarians. It is funded from estate memorials, such as the one given in memory of Mrs. Lillie, as well as CEF Mass card enrollments which are available from the parishes throughout the Diocese of Austin.
During her lifetime Sulak was an active supporter of seminarian education, as was Monsignor Harry Mazurkiewicz, her pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church here in La Grange. At one time Monsignor Harry was the CEF director/treasurer of the fund. He passed this duty on to Father Ed Karasek, who currently holds the position.
It is certain that Sulak worked closely with Monsignor Harry to build up awareness and support for seminarian education, as Sulak was a great advocate of education and education for seminarians.
At the annual ADCCW banquet on June 29 at St. Luke Catholic Church in Temple Lillie Sulak’s memorial donation was part of the $173,000 check given to Bishop Joe Vasquez to assist in seminarian education in the coming year. Those also present from the Sacred Heart Parish Council of Catholic Women were Debbie Greene, Peggy Trochta, and Carolyn Weishuhn. We were grateful to be part of the presentation, as Mrs. Lillie’s legacy of advocacy and service to others continues.
