Deadline Coming Up For High School Art Contest

The National VFW Auxiliary Creative Patriotic Art Contest for all high school students in this area will again be sponsored by La Grange VFW Auxiliary #5254.

Students’ two dimensional art must be on paper or canvas. Water color, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, acrylic, crayon, pen-and-ink, oil, marker or other media may be used. Do not frame! Submit canvas entries on stretcher frames. Other entries must be matted on white. The art should be no smaller than 8” X 10” but no larger than 18” X 24”, not including the mat.

Students may enter threedimensional art. This art can be paper, papier-mache, pottery, metal work, fabric, wood, etc. Pieces should be no larger than 18” in any direction and cannot be more than 5 pounds in weight.

Students may only enter one art project for judging and must submit a typed explanation of patriotism expressed by the art (counts 30% of the total score) in 250 words or less. Digital art, photography, and jewelry are not accepted

Complete rules may be obtained from participating high school art teachers or counselors. The local art winner will receive a cash award and their entry will be sent directly to the state VFW Auxiliary for judging. State and National winners will receive scholarships. The students’ art entries must be in the hands of the local Auxiliary by March 20, 2021, for judging.
