DAR Speaks to CDA No. 1962 at March Meeting

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 met on Monday, March 22 at 7 p.m. at the narthex meeting room in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in La Grange.

Regent Shirley Antosh called the meeting to order and led us in an opening prayer. Guest speakers, Sherry Hebert and Rebecca Stewart from Daughters of the American Revolution, presented a program on the history of Texas as it pertains to Catholics and our Texas Legislature, including the process that a law or bill has to go through.

The court approved a gift to Deacon Mike Meismer in appreciation of his service and on behalf of his retirement. 36 goodie bags were distributed to patients at Jefferson Place. Legislative Chairman, Terri Wagner, reminded members of the upcoming local elections as well as what needs to be done if you want to vote by mail.

The scholarship committee reported that scholarships will be presented at the Family and Anniversary Dinner which will be held on June 13. Our JCDA is gearing up for local elections and the State JCDA Convention which will be a hybrid virtual convention this summer.

Michelle Recek reported on the success of the Fish Fry. She thanked everyone who came out to help, we couldn’t do this without all of our help. Stacy Ryza reported on the charity aspect as we gave complimentary plates to our homebound. Our JCDA members and their moms as well as some of our members kindly delivered many of those plates.

Peggy Supak reported that we will be able to read to Sacred Heart School classes in person for PLAT (Promote Literacy Across Texas).

Regent Antosh reported on updates for the State convention as well as the slate of officers for the State Board.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 p.m. The next meeting will be Monday, April 26.
