Czech Heritage Society Installs New Officers And Directors

The Fayette County Czech Heritage Society met on Tuesday, June 15 in the Hanslik Hall of the Texas Czech Heritage and Culture Center (TCHCC) in La Grange, at 5:30 p.m., for the annual summer picnic and membership meeting.

President Betty Danner opened the meeting and led the pledges to the United States and Texas flags. She also led the group in learning Czech phrases. Betty then welcomed guests. The youngest and oldest were members of the Mikus family, Helen being the oldest and her great grandson, Toby, the youngest. The meeting was recessed for dinner and silent auction biddings.

Incoming officers were then installed by Director, Cathleen Noska. New officers are: President, Betty Danner; Vice-President, Elizabeth Ripple; Secretary, Vera Wehring; Treasurer, Alfred Ermis; Historian: Elizabeth Ripple. One-Year Directors, Adrienne Kobza and Marilyn Cernoch (2021); 2-Year Directors, Cathleen Noska and Johnny Polasek (2020-2022); 3-Year Directors, Carolyn Heinsohn and Joe Ripple (2020-2023).

Carolyn Heinsohn announced the chapter’s $350 scholarship winner is Julie Gail Guentert of Schulenburg High School. Applications were distributed by high school counselors in Fayette County and 5 applicants submitted the required paperwork. The non-winners received $25 gift certificates to the TCHCC Gift Shop.

The Fayette County fall membership meeting will be held on Sept. 26, in TCHCC Hanslik Hall at TCHCC.

The meeting ended with the Heritage Prayer and close of the Silent Auction.
