County Passes Border Support Resolution

Fayette County Commissioners Court passed a resolution of support for counties in South Texas struggling with increased illegal immigration from the southern border.

The resolution says that the State of Texas “has had no choice but to use and deploy Texas Department of Public Safety Officers, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas National Guard and others to protect and defend Texas’ sovereignty and the safety and property of Texas citizens.”

The resolution goes on to say that the state’s actions at the southern border harms all citizens in Texas by taking resources away from other counties.

Fayette County sits nearly 300 miles from the southern border. The biggest problem here involves human smugglers who flee from police, oftentimes crashing stolen vehicles and damaging private property.

Long-time Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputy Rick Bohlmann was in the courtroom that day, and Pct. 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann asked him about the immigration problems locally.

“It’s picking up again,” Bohlmann said. “We’re seeing more and more of it. Two or three (incidents) a week now. They’re damaging a lot of property.”
