Confusion About a Crashed Plane Leaves Responders Scrambling Here
Local first responders got a call Tuesday afternoon about a plane crash near Muldoon. They spent about an hour looking for it before learning that the aircraft had actually crashed miles away in Caldwell County.
The call came in around 4:30 p.m. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) notified Fayette County dispatchers about a blue and white Cessna aircraft that supposedly crashed in the vicinity of Charcoal Company Ln. and FM 154, which is located about two miles southwest of Muldoon. FAA had been tracking the plane, and its last transmitted location was the area southwest of Muldoon. The FAA had also been in contact with the pilot, who reported no injuries and only minor damage to the plane.
Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department established a command post at the intersection of FM 154 and Cherry Rd. Fayette County EMS, Fayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and Flatonia Police Department all responded to assist. Muldoon Fire Chief Stephen Kelly said search parties went out along county roads in the vicinity to look for the plane. A crew from Invenergy also searched the nearby 7V Solar Farm. No one could find any trace of the crash.
DPS was about to launch a helicopter to assist in the search. But before they did, word came in from Caldwell County that the plane had been located there. First responders cleared the scene in Muldoon around 5:30 p.m.
