Commissioners Vote to Continue Burn Ban for Another 90 Days
The Fayette County Commissioners Court voted Monday to extend the burn ban.
The ban was set to expire on Wednesday, Dec. 10. At their meeting on Monday, Dec. 8, Commissioners had considered lifting the ban, at least for a few weeks before Christmas, so that rural residents could burn any materials they had accumulated since the burn ban went into effect 90 days ago.
Pct. 3 Commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff and Pct. 4 Commissioner Drew Brossmann said they were comfortable with lifting the ban after recent rainfall in the southern part of the County.
However, Pct. 1 Commissioner Jason McBroom and Pct. 2 Commissioner Clint Sternadel said conditions in the northern part of the County were much drier.
After some discussion, the Court decided to extend the ban for a term of 90 days, but Commissioners can vote to lift it anytime before then.
