City of LG Extending Water Service to New Development North of Town

The City of La Grange awarded a bid to extend water and wastewater services to the La Grange Springs Development on the north end of town.

The Council accepted three bids and awarded the project to low bidder, South Central Texas Excavation LLC of Columbus. The company bid $347,082.08 for the job, which involves instaling nearly 2,500 feet of eight inch water and wastewater lines from near St. Mark’s Hospital to the south side of FM 2145. The La Grange Springs developers will be responsible for boring under the highway to connect to the new lines.

South Central Texas Excavation’s bid came in about $74,300 cheaper than the next lowest bidder, Hlavinka Construction of East Bernard. Council previously agreed to extend the wastewater line to the apartment complex. Raborn said the City would share the cost of extending the water line with the developers. He told the Council that the City has not yet finalized negotiations with the developers over the percentage of cost that they would pay.

“We’re going to get there,” Raborn said of the negotiations.

Later, Raborn said the City will install another water line back to the City system, creating a loop. He said a “dead-end” water line creates maintenance problems for the water department. The cost of building the “loop” will also be shared with the developer, he said.

Extending water and sewer services to the north side of town may open the area to even more development, he said, especially the vacant property along US 77 north of the hospital. Council voted unanimously to award the bid.
