City, Development Agree to Share Water Cost

The La Grange City Council and the La Grange Springs development agreed to share the cost of a project to bring water to the future apartment complex on the north side of town.

The La Grange City Council met in a closed executive session Monday night, Aug. 23. When they returned to open session, the Council voted to accept an agreement whereby La Grange Springs would pay 60 percent of the cost of a water line “loop” that will serve the apartments.

The City already bid out the portion of the loop that will bring water from the City’s existing water mains to the apartments. That half of the project will cost approximately $166,000, with La Grange Springs paying $99,760.

The other half of the project involves installing a line from La Grange Springs back to the existing city system. The City has not yet solicited bids for that part of the project.

The La Grange Springs property, located north of the US 77 and FM 2145 intersection, actually lies within the service area of Fayette Water Supply Corporation (FWSC). The La Grange Springs developers requested City water after FWSC informed them that the FWSC infrastructure would not be able to handle the needs of the apartments.
