Christmas in Muldoon Slated Dec. 6

Christmas in Muldoon is on and plans are made to celebrate it on Saturday, Dec. 6. Come out and have some oldfashioned fun with the community. The museum will kick off the event with some cookies, hot chocolate, apple cider and even a bake sale from 4:30-6 p.m.

Then you can wander over to the Stray Gathering Cowboy Church to continue the fun with Christmas crafts and even a visit with Santa himself. This is the way to get your Christmas list to the jolly old elf, all while making something fun and festive. This is will be going on from 5-6 p.m.

Finishing out the evening, the Muldoon Fire Department will be hosting a homemade stew supper at 6:30 p.m. They will be accepting free will donations to help pay for the meal.

Northern Lights

The Northern Lights were visible via a camera from Muldoon. This was a really fun experience to go out and try to capture this rare occurrence. Some of the pictures were stunning and amazing. The dark skies of the area made for some really amazing views.

Out and About

On a recent trip through Arkansas Ron and Pam Knotts were guests at a birthday party for Floyd Brantley, a 100-year-old veteran. Mr. Floyd, as he is affectionately called around Conway, Arkansas, is very proud of his military career. Still a teenager, he served in World War II as a Navy corpsman in the South Pacific. Returning home he finished high school just as the Korean War began. Still feeling the call to serve, he spent eight years in the Air Force as a load master. Raising a family followed, a teaching career and eventually time in the reserves during the Vietnam era.

Ron and Pam were introduced to Mr. Floyd a few years ago by their granddaughter and they have met him a number of times for breakfast at Bob’s Cafe in downtown Conway. He holds court there most Saturday mornings talking to folks and sharing his faith and his love of this country. He also hands out flyers he creates that highlight historical events. His apartment is near the campus of the University of Central Arkansas and he can often be seen chatting with students on their way to class. He likes to ask them if they know the Pledge of Allegiance. Ron and Pam are grateful to know this real patriot, still active at 100.

Church News

Just a reminder that the Stray Gathering Cowboy Church’s lady’s ministry has moved their Sweet Tea and Scripture to Saturdays with the Thanksgiving holidays and busy schedules looming ahead. The ladies will meet Saturday, Nov. 22 at noon. This change of schedule is hoping to fix some of the time conflicts and allow more ladies to take advantage of gathering and learning more about the Scripture. All area ladies are welcome to come and join in.

Weather

Muldoon saw our first light freeze of the season on Veterans’ Day. Temperatures briefly touched the 32 degrees mark and there was some light frosting of the grass. It warmed up and was gone fairly quickly as the sun rose.

Road Hazards

The roads in and around Muldoon have become littered with the carcasses of dead animals.

Deer and hogs are scattered along sides of the roadways, along side pieces of vehicles that hit them. Please be aware of that animals are very active right now. They are looking for food, water and their mates, and do not care that there is a car coming.

Some of the hogs being hit are of the big size and after they are hit the scavengers come in and do their clean up job, but also become a driving hazard as they fly up. Just be very careful and be aware of what is going on in the roadways of the area.
