Christmas Events Abound in Fayetteville
Fayetteville’s Third Annual Christmas Tree Decorating Contest represents talent from individuals, families and businesses. Winners will be announced at Country Christmas. Displays are open to the public Thursdays through Sundays from 5 to 9 p.m. through Dec. 26 and by appointment from Dec. 3 through Jan. 2. It’s all in the old firehouse on the square right off of Hwy. 159 across from the Red and White Gallery.
“So many exciting things are new this year,” explained Janice Wasut, the brainchild behind the esteemed event. “Santa and Mrs. Claus are visiting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every Friday and Saturday through Dec. 18. During Country Christmas, children’s movies will be featured on the courthouse lawn. Santa will be there from 4 to 6 p.m. Then he has to join the parade. He’ll be visiting with the kids again when he’s done.”
The ladies should plan on a Ladies Night with Santa and the Mrs. on Dec. 18. Wine and glasses offered for a donation. Willow Springs Hay Rides
John and Patty Wells are pulling out all the stops for their tractor-driven hayrides for kids at their farm in Willow Springs. Reservations only, beginning this Friday through Dec. 22. Enjoy a tour of Christmas lights, holiday scenes and sugar cookies to top it off. Children must be accompanied by parents. The ride begins around 6:15 p.m. and lasts 15 to 20 minutes. No charge. Heimsath Retrospective
On Dec. 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. the Red & White Gallery will host an exhibit honoring the late Texas architect and artist, Clovis Heimsath, whose work explored life in and around Fayetteville.
Country Christmas
The Annual Country Christmas celebration this Saturday features the lighted parade, a home tour, the Lions Club Choir and more live music at St. Paul Lutheran church. Enjoy the parade, shop, eat and tour the decked out homes around town. Tickets and maps for the annual home tour can be purchased for $20 at the Grand Fayette Hotel on the square and at all homes the day of the tour. Don’t forget the photo op with a miniature pony. Holiday Art Show
ARTS in Fayetteville is holding their first annual Holiday Show this Saturday. The kids can enjoy fun holiday crafts from 1 to 4 p.m. and an opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Thankful for Holiday Help
Mayor Mike Stroup is grateful for an invaluable city employee and a highly professional crew from Bellville. “This Thanksgiving, in addition to all the obvious gifts for which we give thanks, I was very thankful that the Tuesday morning before Thanksgiving, Billy Wasut discovered our water well wasn’t pumping. He called J &S Water Wells from Bellville. They came, checked the well and immediately began work on Wednesday morning at 7:20 a.m. with a full crew. I’m very grateful they came at such short notice. They discovered a frozen motor that had to be replaced. A new motor was installed and pumping by 2:30 that afternoon,” the mayor explained. “It will be paid for from a grant we applied for and received this past summer from the Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.”
“J&S was extremely professional from start to finish. If they hadn’t immediately restored that well, we would have been dependent on the older one. I extend my many thanks to Billy and J&S Water Wells.”
Picking Park
At Fayetteville Picking Park some pickers may get dressed up this Saturday and we hear there may be cookies. All are welcome to continue the tradition of live, acoustic bluegrass jamming in the town square.
