Celebrate Round Top’s 150th Anniversary Saturday
We can’t wait to see you this weekend in Round Top for the 150th Anniversary celebration. An excerpt from the Sesquicentennial Committee:
The party kicks off with a cannon blast at 10 a.m. Saturday morning and lasts throughout the night. Highlights of the event include magic shows and firetruck sprays, free cupcakes and treats inside the square’s courthouse, historical presentations and tours, live music from the Black Cat Choir, and the first ever “Taste of Round Top”-showcasing the best of the best food from Round Top to locals and visitors alike.
Tours of the inside and out of the beautiful Festival Hill grounds will be open to the public throughout the day, with a special concert featuring James Dick, Julie Bouchard, and Mike Stroup held for the first 150 guests at 3 p.m. Ending the night will be a Country Legends Tribute to Waylon, Willie & George in the Historic Dancehall, making it a party everyone will remember for years to come.
The Sesquicentennial Committee hopes that guests will be enticed to spend Mother’s Day Weekend in Round Top creating memories of community spirit and family-friendly fun. For more information on Round Top’s 150th Anniversary event, visit exploreroundtop.com.
RT-C ISD
Round Top-Carmine students will be taking the STARR tests May 11-13. Senior Academic Banquet is set for Tuesday, May 18. A ticket system will be utilized to limit the number of guests in attendance; however, the event will also be livestreamed for those who are unable to attend. The Junior High and High School Awards Banquet will be Tuesday, May 25. This event will be closed to outside guests; however, the event will be filmed for parents and community members to view online. Unfortunately, this year’s prom has been cancelled due to COVID. The last day of school will be May 26.
Round Top -Warrenton VFD
The Round Top-Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department Feast & Fundraiser will be Saturday, May 15 at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Fried chicken plates will be served either dine-in or carry-out beginning at 5 p.m. An auction begins at 6 p.m. There will also be a raffle and country store sponsored by Round Top Sons of Hermann Lodge No. 151. Proceeds go toward the purchase of equipment, maintenance of equipment, insurance premiums, operations and personnel training.
Shelby VFD Fundraiser
The 63rd Annual Shelby Volunteer Fire Department fundraiser is set for Sunday, May 30 at Harmonie Hall in Shelby. A BBQ chicken and sausage drive-thru meal will be served from 10:30 a.m. until gone. Desserts and raffle tickets will be available.
Round Top Family Library
The Round Top Family Library is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1:30-3:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. and closed on the weekends. RTFL will be offering CPR and AED training for local high school students Saturday, May 22 at 9 a.m. Call the library to sign-up for this free class. Class size is limited to 10 people so call immediately to reserve your space. The Summer Enrichment and Education Program for kids is coming back. The main change to this year’s program is that all children will need to be pre-registered. Sessions will be offered Tuesdays and Thursdays in June and July from 2-4 p.m. Class size will be limited to 10 children. Programs will be offered for K-6th grade. Monday Night Social
The Round Top Rifle Hall’s Monday Night Social takes place on the first through fourth Mondays of the month from 5:30 - 8 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Round Top C of C

Bethlehem Lutheran Church
Bethlehem Lutheran Church holds services with Pastor John David Nedbalek Sundays at 9:30 a.m. Holy Communion is celebrated using individual, prepackaged units. Confirmation students will meet Wednesday at 4:15 p.m.
City of Refuge Church

Round Top Hermann Sons Life
Round Top Hermann Sons Life Lodge 151 had their first meeting of 2021 on Thursday, April 22 at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall with 22 members present. Lila Garlin, president, called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary, Jeanette Schoenst read the minutes from the 2020 November and December meetings. Obituaries included Burnie Wolff, Fritz Schoenst, Glenn Koether, Doris Georges and Lillian Wied. Mary Rauch, treasurer, had our memorials for each of these ready for sending as soon as they were approved by the membership. It was agreed that our treasurer would remit a $50 memorial in honor of each deceased member at the time of their death to each family’s choice as written in their obituary and our community coordinator, Melanie Rauch, would continue sending our sympathy cards.
Agent, Linda Mattocks, presented her agent’s report. On Saturday, April 24, she attended a workshop in San Antonio. New members were John Vincent Brugger, grandson of Randy Wied and Natalia Rose Pourciau, Linda Mattocks niece. Melanie Rauch’s report included all the sympathy cards and Easter cards to all shut-ins, members on the sick list and those inactive.
There will be a Fire Department feast on May 15 with a live auction, meal plates and our country store. Everyone is encouraged to contribute and participate. Waldeck Church Picnic is on Sunday May 16 - raffle tickets were available. Linda Mattocks presented information on Impact, a local non-profit in the Bryan/College Station area that serves as an incoming student’s first glimpse of the Body of Christ at Texas A&M. Kailey Zoch serves as a counselor for this ministry and their four-day retreat. We will send them a monetary contribution and individuals may contribute as inclined. Happy Birthday was sung for Jeanette Hancock (Jan), Ora Lee Levien (Feb), Linda Mattocks (March), Bob Porter, Melanie Rauch, Jeff Gau and Randy Wied (April).
Attendance prizes were won by Cathy Gau, Max Baranowski, Ted Stardig, Ora Lee Levien and Jeanette Hancock. Serving committee for May and June will be Ted and Margie Stardig, Barton and Lila Garlin, Kay VonMinden, Randy Wied and Cordell Levien. Meeting adjourned and refreshments and fellowship was enjoyed. Next meeting will be May 27.
