Catholic Schools Week Proclaimed

The students, faculty, and staff of Sacred Heart Catholic School in La Grange will celebrate Catholic Schools Week Jan. 30 through Feb. 4. The theme for this year’s events is Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.

We are excited about our school and look forward to sharing our activities with you.

The activities will be kicked off on Saturday, Jan. 22 with an Unsung Heroes appreciation dinner and awards ceremony sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Catholic Schools. Sacred Heart’s honoree is Gary Schellberg. We thank him for his dedication to Sacred Heart Catholic School.

Sunday, Jan. 30 - Celebrating our Parish: Opening Mass will be Sunday at 9 a.m. Students will participate in the Mass in special ways such as being altar servers, banner carrier, lectors, readers of the Prayers of the Faithful, gift bearers, and cantors.

Monday, Jan. 31 - Celebrating our Community: “Meet at the Flagpole Ceremony” at 8:10 a.m. The classes will meet around the flagpole and pray, say the pledges and sing a patriotic song.

Tuesday, Feb. 1 - Celebrating Our Parents and Grandparents: Families will come to enjoy donuts and coffee for breakfast. Then, they may tour the school to see displays of student work. Paper people, that the students cut out and decorated, will be displayed in the hall under a representation of this year’s Catholic Schools Week logo.

Wednesday, Feb. 2 - Celebrating Our Students: Teachers will treat students in various ways. Also, there will be ice cream treats for everyone. Students will be given the opportunity to buy-out-of-their-uniforms by donating baby items to Catholic Charities.

Thursday, Feb. 3 - Celebrating Vocations: Seminarian Matthew Jewell will speak to the students about his call to the priesthood.

Friday, Feb. 4 - Celebrating Our Teachers and Staff: The sixth grade students and parents will treat the faculty and staff to lunch. This is also a free dress day for those students who contributed to Catholic Charities.
