CASA Volunteers Needed

Each year, 1,700-2,000 children and youth go missing from foster care in Texas, often because they run away. These youth face serious risks like exploitation, homelessness, and substance use. Common reasons for running away include frustration with the foster system, restrictive placements, and a desire to reunite with family or be independent.

Kristi Bauer, Executive Director of CASA of Bastrop, Fayette & Lee Counties, explains that foster youth are often seeking safety, stability, and understanding. CASA volunteers—Court Appointed Special Advocates—play a vital role in meeting these needs. They are trained community members appointed by judges to advocate for children in foster care, ensuring their voices are heard and best interests are represented in court.

CASA volunteers get to know each child’s unique situation, working with families, caregivers, and professionals to connect them to needed services and support. Studies show that youth with a CASA are more likely to receive services and less likely to run away.
