Buscha Family Reunion Held in Warda
The descendants of John Buscha Sr. family (1840-1918), with the first generation of John Bushca Jr., Matthes Buscha and Louise Buscha Miersch, celebrated with the bi-annual reunion at the Warda Picnic Grounds on Saturday, Sept. 11. Now the Buscha Family descendances are in the seventh generation. This year’s event was hosted by Brandon and Hope Buscha of Kyle. The BBQ chicken and sausage meal was served with side dishes and desserts furnished by the 36 family members in attendance. Before the meal, a moment of silence was held in remembrance of the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 attack. The next Buscha Reunion will be held in two years on Oct. 14, 2023.
33rd Annual Wendish Fest
The 33rd Annual Wendish Fest will be held on Sunday, Sept. 26 at the St. Paul Picnic Grounds. The day will offer lots of Wendish history, heritage, culture and family activities. There will be a silent auction as well as coffee cake bakeoff, children’s stick horse races and coloring contest. A washer pitching contest and cross-cut saw demonstration will also be held.
Other exhibits and demonstrations include spinning, weaving, rug looming, basket weaving, knitting, stone ground cornmeal, homemade soap, sauerkraut making, noodle making, wine making, sausage stuffing, vintage fire and farm equipment, blacksmith shop demonstrations, broom making, quilting, cording and lace making.
The Wendish Museum Complex will be open that day from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The Shiner Hobo Band will be playing from 1-4 p.m. The traditional Wendish meal will be available at 10:30 a.m. for $12 and children’s meals for $6. To-go and drive-thru will also be available at 9:30 a.m. All take-out meals are $12. FLHS Oktoberfest
Faith Lutheran High School will be hosting a family friendly Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 23 at Holy Cross Picnic Grounds. They will have a German meal, concession stand, dominos, washers and corn hole tournaments and game for the kids. More details on this event will be coming soon.
Visit a Pumpkin Patch
It’s starting to slowly feel like fall around here; some days more than others. Now is a great time to plan your visit to the pumpkin patch. The Lee County Christmas Tree Farm is hosting a family friendly pumpkin patch two weekends in October. There will be wonderful photo opportunities, a hayride and playground. There is no charge for this event. The Pumpkin Patch and activities will be open Oct. 16-17 and Oct. 23-24. Tejas Camp and Retreat Center
Tejas Camp and Retreat Center will be open to the public this year for Christmas December 10-12 from 4 p.m.-10 p.m. They are offering packages for $29 a person that will include lights, climbing wall, zip line, crate stacking, threeperson swing, bounce house and fireworks. They also have VIP packages available for $43 per person that includes the above activities plus dinner, smores kit, hot chocolate and a DIY craft. More information can be found at www.mytejas.org
