Beer & Birthday Cake for Kreische’s 200th
Saturday was a party 200 years in the making as folks celebrated what would have been the 200th birthday of Heinrich Kreische, the German immigrant who constructed the Kreische Home and Brewery that are preserved at the state historic site above La Grange. The event was celebrated with music, kids games, birthday cake (above, right) lots of volunteers (right) and fittingly for a celebration of Kreische, beer. Above left, brewmaster Brian Bush, holds up a cup of the Kreische beer he re-created using 150-year-old yeast strains discovered in the brewery. Samples were given out at Saturday’s event.
