Austin Man Arrested For Evading Arrest

Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Saturday evening around 6:08 p.m. Deputy Darrell Maze conducted a traffic stop on a 2008 Lexus for speeding on St. Highway 71 westbound near Hatterman Rd. Deputy Maze approached the vehicle and it sped off and a pursuit entailed.

The vehicle was observed passing vehicles on the emergency shoulder traveling westbound. The vehicle exited on Highway 159 and wrecked out in a ditch by Bar G Exxon.

The driver was taken into custody and a 9 mm handgun was located in a handbag in the passenger seat. Assisting at the scene was DPS Trooper Mason Harttnett, Deputies Rick Martell and Jason Fowler, La Grange Police Officers David Mohr, Kevin Currington, and Sgt. Travis Anderson.

Arrested was 25-year-old Hector Diaz-Esparza of Austin who was transported to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center and charged with evading arrest and detention with a vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, and a failure to appear for a warrant out of Williamson County for unlawfully carrying a weapon.
