Antiques on the Fayetteville Square Continues
Early bird shopping on March 23 kicked off Antiques on the Square in Fayetteville held through Sunday, March 28 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day. The overall theme is “authentic antique.” Offerings range from American antique primitives and mid-century modern to industrial and folk, with the majority of the antiques coming from our fair state of Texas. “One of the things we hear frequently at our show is ‘I’ve been looking for this all day.’ We’re a little off the beaten path but it’s worth the effort. Between the restaurants and three antique shops, a resale shop and the show vendors, there’s a lot to see and enjoy here. And we do promise authentic,” said Lisa Stansbury, antique show promoter. Fresh flowers, veggies and plants are for sale too.
Almsgiving During Lent
From St. John’s Catholic Church: Consider practicing “almsgiving,” or donating money or goods to the poor and performing other acts of charity during Lent. Gather as a family to select a charitable organization and collect donation funds. You may want to select a charity that addresses the injustices your family often prays about. Contribute your donation at the end of the Lenten season. Here are some suggestions for collecting funds:
• Place a jar or container on the kitchen table. Each day during Lent contribute a set amount of money determined by your family.
• Give up buying junk food and contribute that money to the jar.
• If you have young children who can’t contribute money, let them contribute by decorating the jar or container.
• Hold a yard sale and contribute the proceeds to the collection.
• Invite friends to join your family in contributing to the charity.
Almsgiving is one of the three pillars of Lenten practice.
Daughter Retreat
St. John’s also announces that The Return of the Prodigal Daughter Retreat is this Saturday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The day retreat is based on the story of the prodigal son, looking at it from a different perspective. It will be led by Beverly Collin, former assistant director of Cedarbrake Catholic Retreat Center for 18 years. Cost is $40 and includes lunch. Central Texas Food Bank
On Monday, March 29, the Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at FM 1291 and FM 2145 from 10-11 a.m. Distribution will continue using the drive-thru model. Health safety guidelines will be enforced with clients and volunteers wearing face masks, gloves, and social distancing. Someone will direct traffic. Everyone is being asked to remain in their cars and to make room inside their trunks or truck beds for the prepackaged food boxes to be placed in each vehicle by volunteers. The food truck comes to Waldeck every third Friday of each month. Next dates are Friday, April 16, Friday, May 21 and Friday, June 18.
