American Legion Quade-Werchan Announces Girls State Candidates

During the February 2021 monthly meeting of American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338, members voted to support the applications of students from Round Top-Carmine High School for the 2021 American Legion Auxiliary Texas Girls State Convention.

The 2021 session of ALA Texas Girls State will be held virtually from Sunday, June 20 through Friday, June 25. Students selected to attend will have a daily schedule of activities and participate approximately two hours per evening in virtual sessions.

The president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 338, Lou Ann Williams, and Post Commander Lyn Reavis, worked with school counselor Debra Foster to identify and recruit eligible candidates. The finalists approved to attend the convention are: Jerika Kraemer, Ilse Salinas, Jordan Stanley, and Janette Weidemann.

American Legion Auxiliary Texas Girls State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for high school students. It is patterned after the Texas Boys State program of the American Legion that has been conducted since 1935. This year Texas Girls State will involve over 500 students in a participatory program where each attendee becomes a part of the operation of her local, county, and state government.

The American Legion Quade-Werchan Post #338 and the Ladies Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of each month at their hall located at 1503 N. State Highway 237 Round Top. The next meeting will be held on June 3 beginning at 7:30 p.m.
