American Legion Honors Margaret Kubala
American Legion Shelby Post 602 honored Margaret Kubala at the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary for her service and dedication to the post and community on May 4. For over five years Margaret has served as president of the Auxiliary. She was honored with a beautiful poem and presented with a pin. Margaret is the wife of Jerry Kubala who was recently honored for his years of service.
Stroup Performs at Festival Hill
The newly elected Mayor, Mike Stroup, performed at Festival Hill in Round Top on Saturday, May 8 with singer/songwriter Julie Bouchard and Festival Hill founder/pianist James Dick in celebration of Round Top’s 150th anniversary.
Special Meeting
A special city council meeting was scheduled and posted for Thursday, May 6 to canvas the votes and swear in the newly elected city officials. The meeting was cancelled and a new city council meeting was conducted by the former mayor on Wednesday, May 12. Votes were canvassed during this session and the oath of office was administered to Mike Stroup, Mayor and City Council members Cade Burks, Place II and Emil Knodell, Place IV.
Mask No Longer Mandated
Masks are no longer mandated at Fayetteville ISD as of this Friday. Mask requirements continued this long to keep students healthy through to graduation and the completion of all testing.
New Residents
A warm welcome to very new Fayetteville residents Sandra and Kyle Borne who just moved here on Monday from Beaumont. Sandra grew up in a small town and admires our friendly, walkable city with solid family values.
Fayetteville Prom
A parent-funded prom this Saturday, May 15 will be held for all students (from freshman to seniors) at the SPJST Hall in Fayetteville from 6-11 p.m. Any parents that would like to make a donation or volunteer to help, please contact Lacey Hopkins at (979) 639-1213.
Mississippi Kites
The Mississippi Kites have returned once again to Fayetteville. Watch for these beautiful hawks that can be seen in the morning and evening sky. Two pair soared overhead all summer last year. They’re the size of a vulture but more refined in shape and tend to fly apart with graceful gliding arcs.
Visitor
Betsy and Steve Hankins youngest son Griffin will be visiting for the next few weeks. Griffin just completed his four year-enlistment in the army as a Geospatial Engineer. He was stationed at Shaw Air Force Base and deployed to Jordan and Kuwait. In the fall, Griffin will return to Charleston, South Carolina to attend The College of Charleston.
