Dan Mueller Considers a Run; Fayetteville Man Running for State House Spot

The race for the Fayette County Judge nomination in the March Republican Primary now includes three candidates.

Fayette County Emergency Management Chief Craig Moreau announced his candidacy on Tuesday, Nov. 30. He joins two others: William Bernsen, a land surveyor from Plum who announced his candidacy on Nov. 16, and Lori Berger, a former mayor of Flatonia and board member of the Lower Colorado River Authority who announced her candidacy on Nov. 23.

Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Dan Mueller told the Record this week that he is considering a run for County Judge.

“I have been contacted by a lot of good Fayette County residents who have reached out to me and urged me to seek this office,” Mueller said. “I am contemplating this and will announce my decision soon.”

The only other contested local election in the Republican Primary is the Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace race. Three candidates have filed so far: Jamie Moreau, Brad Neville and Victor Weishuhn.

As of Wednesday, Dec. 1, only incumbents have filed in the other Fayette County offices up for election in the Republican Primary:

• Linda Svrcek for District Clerk

• Brenda Kallus Fietsam for County Clerk

• Luke Sternadel for Pct. 2 Commissioner

• Drew Brossmann for Pct. 4 Commissioner

• Kyle Hartmann for Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace

• Charles Zapalac for Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace.

The Texas Legislature redrew political maps for the state’s congressional, House, Senate and Board of Education districts this year. Fayette County moved from State House District 10, represented by State Rep. Ben Leman of Anderson, to District 85, represented by State Rep. Phil Stephenson of Wharton. Stephenson has applied to run for re-election in the Republican Primary. Fayetteville resident Fred A. Roberts has filed to run against him along with Art Hernandez of Ft. Bend County. No one has filed for local office in the Democratic Primary except the incumbent Party Chair, David McCall.
