62 Citations Issued at Cockfighting Event

Burleson County law officers stopped a cockfighting operation on June 27, off CR 338 in the Cooks Point area, and issued 62 Class C misdemeanor citations. However additional 20-25 people attending fled into the woods and were not immediately found. Deputies are continuing their investigation and they anticipate additional charges being filed. Law officers recovered multiple live roosters at the scene and turned them over to the Brazos County Humane Society. Multiple roosters were also found dead.
The principal of Somerville Intermediate School has reportedly resigned, following her arrest in Travis County on a burglary charge. KBTX-TV in Bryan reported the resignation of 45-year-old Leanne Baugus. Booking records from the Austin Police Department show Baugus was arrested for burglary of a building on June 23.

An alarm went out from Texas Skydiving in Lexington on July 1 at about 6:00 p.m. The Lee County Sheriff’s dispatch went out across the airways stating an airplane lost an engine. By the time Lexington Volunteer Fire Department arrived, they learned that the engine never actually failed. It simply sputtered a bit on a turn due to a brief starving of fuel and the pilot in training made a proper though thankfully unnecessary emergency call, landing the plane safely without incident.
On June 26 at 11:12 a.m. Lee County EMS was dispatched to an unresponsive child, possible drowning, on CR 316 in Blue, northwest of Lexington, Squad 1 was first on scene within 12 minutes of the initial call. Lee County EMS continued resuscitation measures and transported the child to Baylor Scott & White in Taylor where the child was later pronounced deceased.
Hallettsville Tribune-Herald
The Hallettsville Police Department (HPD) and the Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) have been busy dealing with a bailout and arrests of individuals, who entered the country illegally. On June 28 the HPD and the LCSO intercepted a stolen vehicle out of Houston. The vehicle went through multiple fences in between the area of CR 132 and CR 15, located approximately four miles east of Hallettsville. The report said no subjects were apprehended. In another incident on June 27 HPD conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling east in the 700 block of W. Fairwinds St. (Hwy 90-A) for a traffic violation. The vehicle was stopped in Hoffer’s Grocery parking lot. It was determined that both the driver and the passenger, two adult males, were in the country illegally and released into the custody of the U.S. Border Patrol.
