4-H Kids Shine in the County Spotlight

The Fayette County courthouse was packed with amazing young people Wednesday morning. Members of the 4-H leadership teams from clubs across the county gave updates to the county commissioners on their past and future activities.

In her letter to the judge and commissioners 4-H Youth Development Director Kayla Kaspar said, in part, “For the past year, Fayette County 4-Hers have been busy, ‘Making the Best Better’ ... it is an honor to work with and teach some of the most amazing and bright people, not only 4-H members but also parents, adults leaders and 4-H volunteers ... I want to thank you for your support of the Fayette County 4-H program and allowing the 4-Hers to be present and represent their clubs today.”

Leaders from 12 different 4-H clubs, including the Leadership Council, made presentations – a rather daunting endeavor for the kids, standing up before a crowd in the district court room, and addressing the commissioners and County Judge Dan Mueller directly.

After the presentations, Mueller applauded the students.

“You youngsters did a fantastic job,” Mueller said.

“Y’all do a way better job of public speaking than we do,” added Commissioner Drew Brossmann.

“To raise these type of kids, it take great parents,” said Commissioner Harvey Berckenhoff, who then asked for a round of applause for the parents of the 4-H kids.

Then Judge Mueller officially signed a proclamation designating Oct. 4-10 as National 4-H Week in Fayette County and in the state of Texas. All then proceeded to the courthouse steps for a group photo, before it was back to school for the kiddos.
